Apart from Amazon Kindle, there are plenty of e-book readers available in the market at much affordable price points. One of popular alternates is Kobo, which recently introduced the Clara HD e-reader at an affordable price of $129 (approximately Rs 8,700). The company is taking preorders today in US, and will be launching the e-reader on June 5.

The Kobo Clara HD looks just like any other e-reader. It comes with a 6-inch E-Ink display, wrapped around a compact body that features dimensions of 159.6x110x8.35mm, and weighs merely 166 grams. That should make the Kobo Clara HD easy to use in one hand. It also carries the customary black matte finish.

The 6-inch touchscreen on the Clara HD features a pixel density of 300ppi, which is similar to Amazon’s Paperwhite variant. Along with that, it also features ComfortLight PRO technology, which reduces exposure to blue light during nighttime, in order to deliver a comfortable reading experience. Besides that, the e-reader also has an internal storage of 8GB, which can store up to 6,000 e-books.

Kobo hasn’t specified the battery capacity of the device, but does state that it can run for weeks on a single charge. There is a good chance that it’s possible, as E-Ink displays consume very less battery. The e-reader comes with a microUSB port, and supports Wi-Fi connectivity as well. It can also download books directly from Kobo’s eBookSore, which is said to carry about 5 million titles. The company even points out that its devices do not feature any advertisements, something that Amazon’s e-readers are known for.
