Reliance Jio saw another decrease in its 4G download speeds in the month of April while its rival Bharti Airtel saw its 4G speeds slightly increase in this period. This data comes from TRAI, which can also be accessed using the MySpeed app. This is not the first time Jio has seen a dip in its speeds this year. In fact, this is the second month straight that its overall 4G speeds have decreased, and the third time this year. Compared to Reliance Jio, its competitors are managing to keep their speeds steady.

According to TRAI’s MySpeed app, Reliance Jio’s 4G download speeds averaged 14.7Mbps in April 2018, which is almost 33 percent less that what it was two months ago (21.3Mbps). The highest speeds of Reliance Jio recorded by TRAI was in the month of December last year – 25.6Mbps. And in the month of April this year, Airtel was second in terms of 4G speeds at 9.2Mbps, followed by Idea at 7.4Mbps, and Vodafone at 7.1Mbps.

In April an OpenSignal report claimed that Airtel is the one with the best 4G download speeds in India, despite Reliance Jio leading in terms of 4G availability in India. In terms of the number of subscribers, Airtel is the clear leader in India, followed by Vodafone and Idea Cellular, while Reliance Jio comes in at fourth. The scenario is a bit different when it comes to upload speeds. Here, Idea Cellular leads with 6.5Mbps, followed by Vodafone at 5.2Mbps, Reliance Jio at 4Mbps, and Airtel at 3.7Mbps.

These rankings are all subject to change with the approaching Vodafone and Idea Cellular merger that will make it the biggest telco in India ahead of the likes of Airtel and Reliance Jio.
